Certificate Advanced Application Management with Red Hat OpenShift

Advanced Application Management with Red Hat OpenShift
Red Hat

This is the third course in the specialization. Assuming you already have learned a lot about Kubernetes, now it is the showtime of OpenShift. Simply put, Openshift has a Kubernetes inside, but it enhances Kubernetes a lot based on the philosophy from Red Hat. OpenShift introduces may new components, processes, services that you won’t find in a vanilla Kubernetes.

The course begins with introduction to Git and Visual Studio Code. At first glance, you might think they are irrelevant. However, as you proceed, you will find development environment and Git are the starting point of the process of application delivery and publish, in OpenShift’s way. By using application templates, OpenShift builds and deploys application for you. Everything is done automatically.

The course demonstrates a few useful scenarios:

  • how to trigger update
  • how to use config map and secrets,
  • how to connect a database
  • how to scale up, scale down and do it automatically
  • how to troubleshoot and find possible reasons of failure

Based on all the hands-on experience that you have obtained, in the final week, the course teaches theoretical things. Oh, I like this arrangement. The final week focus on the architecture of Kubernetes and OpenShift, the enhancement like Route, and Source-to-Image (S2I) process, etc.

The graded quiz is a little bit challenging. However it is a piece of cake if you have already been using OpenShift for years.
